All About Microblading and Permanent Makeup

What is it?

Microblading is the artistic tattooing of individual hair strokes to give the illusion of real hair, thur creating fuller and more symmetrical eyebrows. Microblading is done with a hand tool. The other types of semi permanent makeup done at our studio (powder ombre brows, lip stains, eyeliners) is done with a handheld machine. We use top of the line machinery and pigments that create a very NATURAL, soft, and airy look that will eventually fade with time.

How long does it last?

Unretouched, the pigment will last 9-12 months depending on your skin. If you revisit our spa for regular touch ups, the pigment will last as long as it is maintained. Your first touch up is included in the initial cost, and is usually between 6-8 weeks after the first appointment.

Does it hurt?

We numb you topically and as you are being tattooed. You should feel completely numb and comfortable.

What should i do before my appointment?

Refer to pre procedure advice above that is written specifically for the area we will be treating.

What is the process like?

All of our micro pigmentation is a two step treatment, consisting of an initial procedure and then a touch up 6-8 weeks later. The second touch up is included in the cost and a requirement after the first visit.  A 'before' and 'after' picture is taken for all of our clients. This picture is to keep track of all noticeable changes in the skin over time. It also is a great before and after to show your family and friends, as well as for my portfolio. I will then apply a topical numbing cream to ensure your comfort for the the procedure. Once removed, I will measure the area we are treating in order to ensure perfect symmetry, size, and shape.  We will work together on the design, color, shape, and size. Nothing is done without your approval!

During healing, it's normal to experience some pigment loss; this is why we have the touch up in place. The healing process and aftercare will be discussed in full detail at your appointment as well as given to you to take home.

Pre Procedure Advice for Semi Permanent Makeup Procedures

Permanent cosmetic procedures normally require multiple treatment sessions. For best results, clients will be required to return for at least one retouch procedure, usually between four and six weeks after the initial procedure. Be prepared for the color intensity to be significantly sharper and darker immediately after the procedure. This will subside and become lighter as the tissue heals. This process can take up to ten days.

Advice for all permanent cosmetic procedures

  • Since delicate skin or sensitive areas may be swollen or red, it is advised not to make social plans for the same day.
  • Please wear no makeup on the day of the procedure.
  • Please inform your technician if you have taken aspirin, Ibuprofen or Coumadin within the two days leading up to procedure.
  • Do not discontinue any medication before consulting your doctor.
  • Do not drink alcohol the night before your treatment.
  • A patch test will be performed upon request.

Eyebrow Procedures

  • Any waxing should be performed at least 48 hours before the procedure:
  • Electrolysis no less than five days before the procedure.
  • Eyebrow tinting should not be undertaken for two weeks prior to the procedure.
  • Do not make social plans for the same day as the procedure, since delicate skin or sensitive areas may swell lightly, or redden.
  • Allergy testing is recommended before the planned procedure. Limit the use of aspirin or ibuprofen prior to your scheduled appointment.
  • Avoid chemical peels, retinols and retin-a within 1 week of the procedure.
  • No botox within 2 weeks PRIOR to treatment.

Eyeliner procedures

  • Any eyelash tinting or eyelash perming should be carried out no sooner than 1 week before or two weeks after the procedure.
  • Do not wear contact lenses during or immediately following the procedure. Remember to bring your glasses. You may resume wearing your contact lenses as soon as your eyes feel comfortable. (This is normally 24 hours after the procedure).

Lip Stain

  • If you have a history of cold sores (herpes simplex), we advise you to contact your doctor to obtain the proper prescription medication to prevent such outbreaks.
  • Alternatively, obtain herpes medication for example Zovirax from your local pharmacy and use one week before and one week after your procedure. This can help minimize an outbreak.
  • Permanent cosmetic procedures do not cause cold sores, however if you carry the virus, it lays dormant in the body and can be aroused by the procedure.
  • Lip wax or bleaching treatments should not be undertaken for at least a two-week period preceding your permanent cosmetic procedure.

 EYEBROWS

(microblading and powder brows)

Proper care following your procedure is necessary to achieve the best results. Keep in mind that in many cases, some unevenness of color is to be expected. This is the purpose of the re-touch visit. It takes about 7-10 days for the brows to finish the skin turn over process of flaking up. The day of your appointment you will be slightly red and swollen, day 2 the eyebrows will be a shade or two darker than the pigment we selected as the pigment oxidizes when exposed to oxygen, days 3-7 the eyebrows continue to darken and will flake up and you will have very small scabs. Once all the scabs are gone (usually right around 8 days out), the brows will be lighter in color and softer.

For the first day: Ice packs protected with a cloth may be applied as necessary to reduce swelling.

Half hour to an hour after procedure: leave eyebrows dry in order to let the lymph fluid leak out.

After a half hour wipe lymph with dry cotton square

Before Bed: Wipe gently with antibacterial wipe and apply thin layer of ointment.

Days 1-2 Wipe eyebrows with antibacterial wipe (to be sure to remove your old layer of ointment off well) dry and apply new thin layer of ointment. Do this 3-4x a day.

Days 3-5 Same procedure 3x day.

Days 6-10 - at least at once per day and before going to sleep.

Skin needs 72 hours for wounds to close- more or less (depends on age of client, metabolism, skin type…) which is why it is so important that during the first few days you wash them well - SUPER IMPORTANT! Washing will not lighten the color! It helps reduce lymph build up (which if left unwashed, causes extra scabbing, thus pulling out the pigment. (some scabbing is normal, but big yellow lymph scabs are not good!) Just wash them lightly with an antibacterial soap or the wipes given to you at the appointment (pat soap on, rinse, pat dry, or wipe eyebrows wit outward motion using wipes).

You may experience the following for 72 hours. Flaking. Tenderness. Dryness and itchiness in the treated area. Swelling and redness. For these 72 hours, Continue to wash your brows with antibacterial soap at night !

Daily Care to follow for at least one week until your procedure has fully healed.

Always wash your hands before applying the after care healing balm. Prevent cross-contamination of your healing balm by using a clean cotton bud for each application.

We recommend you use a gentle facial cleanser to clean the face during the healing period. Keep hair away from the treated site to prevent any infection. Some itching is normal. DO NOT PICK, PEEL OR SCRATCH the treated area or the color may heal unevenly and you risk scarring and infection. Allow the wound to flake on its own. No makeup should be applied for 72 hours after the procedure. Do not expose the healing skin to direct sun, tanning beds, Jacuzzis, saunas, salt water, chlorinated pools, direct shower spray, hot water, skin creams or ointments other than what you have been instructed to use for two weeks following your procedure. If the area gets wet, gently pat dry using clean tissue. Remember, your selected color will be stronger and more sharply defined immediately after treatment but as the healing process occurs the color will soften and lighten.

Lash extensions

What are they?

Eyelash Extensions will lengthens and thickens your own natural eyelashes. Lash Extensions are single strands of synthetic eyelashes that are curved to replicate a natural eyelash. They are applied to each individual natural eyelash one by one for a natural, beautiful and luxurious look. Eyelash Extensions are perfect for special occasions or for day to day wear. They do not need mascara or curling, the only maintenance they require are fills.

When should i get a fill?

Your fill must be within 24 days of your full set. This is because on average, a client will retain about 50% of their extensions after roughly 20 days. A fill appointment is only an hour and 15 minutes long. Any less than 50% of lashes will require more appointment time as well as more supplies, thus becoming a full set again.

Will they damage my natural eyelashes?

NOPE! absolutely not. This is because they are applied in a 1:1 ratio and therefore they will shed with the cycle of your natural eyelash growth. The weight and length of the extensions are customized to your natural eyelashes for optimal health.

Can I swim, shower, exercise, or visit a spa while wearing Eyelash Extensions?

Yes. glue  we use is waterproof and allows you to shower, swim, exercise etc. Special care is required but overall maintenance is low.

How do i care for my lashes?

Do not get lashes wet for at LEAST 24 hours after application -this gives the glue time to cure

After 24 hours it is okay to shower and wash face like normal, but avoid submerging the head completely underwater.

Note that activities such as hot yoga, sauna use, excessive exercise, and excessive steam can loosen adhesive, causing premature lash shedding.

When drying the face/eye area it is important to use PATTING motions, rubbing can tug on the extensions and cause pain. Be cautious of cotton pads around the eyes, try to use lint free material/cloths to avoid anything getting caught in the attachments of glue to lash.

If you choose to wear mascara make sure it is oil free. Eyeliner, eyeshadow, and other makeup is fine to be worn if it is removed properly and gently with an oil free makeup remover.

Comb through the lashes every morning and night with clean spoolie to avoid tangles. Only comb dry lashes.

If you feel that a lash is falling off and needs to be removed DO NOT PULL IT!! this will damage the cuticle of the natural lash. Either wait for it to shed with your eyelash growth cycle or see a lash technician to have it removed
